Water Dispensers FAQ

Why should I purchase a water dispenser?

Because owning a water dispenser will save you time and money, and it could even be good for your health. Your body needs water to stay healthy, and a water dispenser makes it easier and tastier to meet your body's daily water needs. Hot water dispensers make cooking and beverage preparation as easy as can be, and water coolers are great for keeping kids hydrated in a rec room or backyard. Tap water can also be very unhealthy, but with water dispensers, there's no need to worry about chemicals or water impurity.

Is bottled water really healthier than tap water?

Some debate remains over the benefits of bottled water versus tap water. What is certain is that some government standards are higher for bottled water than tap water. And as a simple matter of taste, water dispensers trump faucets most of the time.

FDA standards for water dispensers are generally the same as for municipal water, but there are a few differences. For example, lead levels in tap water must be below 15 ppb (parts per billion). But for bottled water, lead must be below 5 ppb.

Many water dispenser companies also voluntarily submit to stronger industry standards than the federal government requires.

How often should I change the filter on my water dispenser?

The answer depends on what type of filter your water dispenser is using and how often you use it. A water dispenser that uses a charcoal water cooler filter should have its filter changed about every six months. Water dispensers that use reverse osmosis should have a filter change every two to three months. Some filter types will become contaminated if not used for a significant period of time, so always check your water dispenser filter when coming home from a vacation or long trip. Of course if your water tastes unusual, that could be a sign that the water dispenser filter needs changing.
